Amazon Updates • June 2026
If you sell on Amazon, this one is worth a few minutes of your time. A title change is coming July 27, 2026 and if you're not prepared, Amazon will make the updates for you.
Starting July 27, 2026, product titles across all categories (except media) will be capped at 75 characters including spaces. Right now most optimized titles run two to three times that length, so this will affect a significant portion of listings.
To make up for the shorter title, Amazon is introducing something called Item Highlights. This is an additional 125 characters that appear directly below the title in search results and on product pages. This is where you'd put materials, use cases, or other details that help customers make a decision. The good news is that Item Highlights content is still searchable, so the keyword real estate you lose in the title can largely be recovered here. Think of it as a reallocation more than a reduction.
If you don't update your titles before July 27, Amazon will apply an AI-generated version automatically. Brand owners get a 14-day heads-up before any recommendation goes live, giving you time to review, edit, or reject it in the Review Listing Changes dashboard in Seller Central. That window only opens when Amazon decides to push a change to a specific listing, though, so it's easy to miss if you're not watching for it.
Don't panic, but don't ignore this either. Here's a reasonable approach:
The brands that will come out of this in the best shape are the ones that review and control their own updates rather than letting Amazon's AI decide what their titles say.
This change is real and worth planning for, but it's not a crisis. Amazon is rolling it out gradually, the keyword coverage mostly moves rather than disappears, and you have a review window before anything goes live. Get your process set up now, stay out of your listings through Prime Day, and make deliberate decisions about your catalog afterward. That's the right call here.
